This Movember I’ve committed my upper lip to help change the face of men’s health.
WHY I AM DOING THIS:
Back in Spring 2015 my father went to the hospital with severe abdominal pains. Less than 24 hours later he was in surgery, his life hanging by a thread, after an aneurism in his aorta had ruptured. The outlook was looking grim. Against all odds (5% survival rate), dad came out of a successful surgery and spent the next several months recovering from the trauma. During his recovery, doctors did all of the normal tests they needed to make sure he was in fact out of the woods. There were concerns about some of his bloodwork, encouraging hospital staff to consult with oncology. At the end of all of the testing, they told my dad that he had stage 4 prostate cancer, which had metastasized to his bones.
After the trauma he had already suffered through and hearing this dreadful news, most people would be driven into a deep depression. Not my dad, who seemed almost at peace. He realized he was already a walking miracle after surviving the ruptured aneurism. Since then, he continues to be positively fighting the good fight with God by his side. We are happy to know that as of today, dad is back to normal and his doctors are thrilled with his progress. He will live with cancer for the rest of his life, but LIVE is the keyword there.
I’m supporting the Movember Foundation because too many men are dying too young. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide, and the Movember Foundation is working to halve the number of deaths from prostate cancer by 2030. I want to help them get there.
